Figure F
Project designed by Barbara Di Clemente.

Materials:

Faux To Go Portofino kit:
  - sable dagger brush
  - cotton swabs
  - white basecoat
  - golden yellow glaze
  - mocha glaze
  - black onyx glaze
  - high gloss varnish
glass vase
chip brush
chamois
newspaper
pouncer brush

Steps:

1. Paint a glass vase with two or three coats of white base coat. Allow the paint to dry for three hours between coats.

2. Load a sable dagger brush with golden yellow glaze. Drag the brush in a vertical manner down the vase while twisting the wrist to create ribbon bands one to two inces apart (figure A).

3. Rinse the sable dagger brush and load it with mocha glaze. Lightly shade the golden yellow glaze and pull into the white areas to create more ribbons (figure B). Add a coat of varnish and let dry.

4. Lightly stipple it black glaze onto the entire surface of the vase with a pouncer brush (figure C).

5. Moisten a thin chamois strip with water and squeeze out the excess. Place it in ramdon spots on the surface (figure D) of the vase and lift it gently to reveal strips of color (figure E).

6. With a wet cotton swab, clean the chamoised areas to reveal the white basecoat (figure F).

7. Dap a small, crumpled piece of newspaper into the glaze to create a fractured effect.

8. Break a cotton swab in half and use the plastic stick to create more fracture lines in the glaze.

9. Apply two coats of gloss varnish and let dry.
