Host Kathi Cardinalli shows how to create a 3-D fish sculpture with plastic foam.
Materials:
marker
plastic foam block
plastic foam cutter
craft knife
brushes
casting plaster
sanding block or fine sandpaper
acrylic paints
Steps:
- Loosely draw a fish shape on the sides and the top of the foam block.
- Cut foam to shape (figure A). Make sure the fish will stand up on its own on a flat surface. Add details using the cutter. Use a craft knife to add even more detail.
- Brush off any loose pieces with a brush.
- Mix plaster and water to create a loose paste. Apply a thin coat to the entire surface of the fish shape (figure B). Let dry very well.
- Use sandpaper to smooth out the plaster surface. Wipe off dust.
- Paint fish with acrylic paints (figure C). Let dry well.
* Note: You might want to water down the paint to create washes to use on the fish.
