Materials:
glass table round
glass cleaner
gloves
painter's tape
Krylon Stained Glass Spray Paint (red and orange)
pin striping (small and black in color)
wheel-well molding (chrome color)
Steps:
- Purchase a small (20- to 30-inch) glass round that is smooth on the outside and is made for tabletops.
- Put gloves on before handling glass to prevent fingerprints and smudges.
- Clear entire surface with streak-free glass cleaner.
- Once dry, mark off areas using painter's tape. Long angular tapings from side to side are recommended.
- Using the red spray-paint first, swirl the can and shake. Spray some onto paper to ensure paint is mixed and to avoid blobs.
- Spray glass top using light, even sweeping motions. Do not apply a large amount , as this will cause the spray to glob and drip. Do a little at a time and let dry. Apply more coats (letting it dry in between) until the desired coverage and color is achieved.
- Once the red is dry, remove painter's tape to expose the clear stripes of glass . Prepare the orange paint.
- Once ready, paint the entire surface orange (including the red areas). Use the same techniques as before, being careful not to glob on the paint. Once satisfied, let dry.
- Now apply the trim. Turn table over so that the painted side is now on the bottom . This is important to prevent the table from scratching and removing the stained glass. For the leading, purchase small black pin striping from an auto store. Measure the approximate desired amount for each section and snip off. Then, using two pieces of tape, pull the pin striping off of its adhesive backing and lay down over the section desired (on the top of the table, opposite the painted side). Snip off excess with small scissors.
- Once the leading is complete, measure around the outside of the table for additional chrome molding. Purchase wheel-well molding (also from the auto store), pull off adhesive and press in place.
