Materials:
unstained piece of wood or furniture piece
Aqua Stain & Seal colors
- honey pine
- ebony
- antique mahogany
- barn red
Melanie Royal Design stencil #518 - elegant berries
Melanie Royal Design 3/4-inch or one-inch stencil brushes - one for each color
paper towels
22-grit sanding block
sponge brush
cheesecloth
Steps:
1. Seal and color the wood by applying a thin, even coat of honey pine Stain & Seal using a foam brush, and wiping off the excess with cheesecloth (figure A). Let dry.
2. Sand lightly and wipe down the surface to remove any dust.
3. Stencil the elegant berries design onto the wood, using antique mahogany and ebony Stain & Seal for the leaves and barn red for the berries (figure B). Stencil using a circular motion to define the edges of the stencil, filling in with solid, even color (figure C). Finish off by brushing the stain through the stencil in the direction of the wood grain. Apply two coats of stain if a darker color is desired (figure D).
4. Apply another coat of the honey pine Stain & Seal with a foam brush and wipe down with cheesecloth to deepen and enrich the stencil colors.
