Materials:
cement mix (smooth)
water
mixing bucket
trowel
plywood scraps and pieces of 1x4s, pre-cut to desired candle size
screws, clamps or nails
tea lights (with metal holders)
acrylic art paints in terra cotta or other stone-like colors (optional)
brushes (optional)
Steps:
- Create some molds for the candleholders. Use squares or rectangles of plywood and 1x4s for this.
- To assemble a mold, place a piece of the cut plywood on a flat surface and place 1x4s on top. Hold these together tightly with screws, clamps or nails.
- Mix cement with water in bucket according to package instructions (stir thoroughly ).
- Carefully pour some of the cement into the mold. Level off the top. Press the tea candle metal holders into surface in a grid pattern leaving some space between each.
- When completely dry, remove the mold. Take out screws, clamps or nails from wood and lift away from dried cement. Use a hammer or chisel to take off wooden bottom , if necessary.
- Place candles in holders and set on mantel, side table or along the middle of a dining table.
- Optional: Water down some of the paint and brush onto the surface to create a more natural stone look. Reuse the molds if desired to make other candles.
