Project designed by Jane Beard.

Materials:

shrink plastic - white
white or ivory polymer clay
Colorbox crafter's ink - subtle traditional cameo colors
colored card stock
jewelry findings - pin backs, earring backs, etc.
rubber stamps:
- K-805 large cameo
- C-807 small cameo
- G-806 oval frame
- G-804 locket
hobby knife
scissors
heat gun
embossing powder

Steps:

Shrink Plastic Cameos

  1. Stamp large cameo image on shrink plastic.
  2. Carefully cut out the cameo using scissors, then apply heat to shrink it. As the plastic shrinks, it will curl up. Continue to heat and the plastic will eventually straighten out again. Once the cameo has shrunk, follow the instructions under brooch finish.
Tips: For tiny cameos, use the small cameo stamp on shrink plastic. To make tiny charms, punch a small hole near the top before shrinking the plastic. These tiny cameos make great earrings. Just glue a post on the back of two tiny cameos and voila, instant earrings!

Polymer Clay Cameos
  1. Knead clay thoroughly and roll out thin. Ink the small-sized cameo stamp using Colorbox crafter's ink in the desired color and stamp image onto clay. Applying firm pressure while stamping will create a nice relief effect.
  2. Trim out around the outer edge with a hobby knife, and bake per manufacturer's directions. The clay is easier to handle after heating a few minutes with a heat gun after stamping, then trimming the shape out. This firms up the clay a bit, making it less likely to stretch out of shape while cutting.
Brooch Finish
  1. Stamp the oval frame onto desired color of card stock and emboss using silver embossing powder on black paper or gold embossing powder on gold paper. Try other color combinations for different looks.
  2. Trim the shape out and glue the finished polymer clay or shrink plastic cameo into the frame. Adhere to a pin back.
Locket Finish
  1. Stamp the locket design twice onto card stock. Trim out only around the bottom half. On one, trim out the oval openings.
  2. Carefully glue two photos into the oval opening. Re-trim around the bottom edge if necessary. Glue the two sections of the locket together back-to-back. Trim the rest of the locket out, keeping the top loop above the right photo only.
  3. Punch a small hole in the loop for a piece of ribbon or cord. A cameo may be placed on the front of the locket.
