Painting a Fan

Materials:

latex satin paint
sandpaper
graining tool
spray shellac|
tack rag

Steps:

1. Turn the power off and take the fan apart. Clean all the pieces with soap and water and rinse well. Lightly sand the blades and remove the dust with a damp cloth or tack rag.

2. Place each blade on a piece of wood to keep it off the table. Brush paint on in even strokes. Set blades aside and allow to dry overnight.

3. Apply a darker wood-toned paint and pull a graining tool through it in a long even stroke (figure A). Rock the tool back and forth to simulate a natural wood grain. Clean the tool after completing each fan blade.

4. Once dry, spray on a light coat of shellac to seal the surface (figure B ).
