Gold-leafing adorns the custom mirror over the fireplace and the trim work on the fireplace surround.
Decorating with gold adds elegance to any decor and doesn't have to cost a fortune . Kitty Bartholomew visits with Harry Neuberg, distributor of a gold-leafing product , and his wife, Lynn, to see the creative ways they have incorporated touches of gold in their home.

The Neubergs, who enjoy mixing contemporary pieces with antiques, have the expected gold finish on picture frames, but they used different shades of gold, including white gold, for added interest. The trim work on the fireplace is gold-leafed, which balances the magnificent gilded custom mirror over the mantle. Other golden touches in the home include a library bookcase backed in gold. Curio cabinets also have a gold backing , as do display niches on the landing. A lampshade with a golden inside warms and intensifies the quality of light. Nueberg says gold-leafing is not that expensive . The landing niche cost less than $100 to do, and the trim on the fireplace required one book of gold-leaf, or 25 sheets, and cost about $30.
