Figure D
Host Renai Ellison explains how to create an accent piece from an unfinished or antique rocking chair for a child's room. The materials she uses are paint, paper cutouts and glue.

Materials:

small wooden chair
scissors
foam
spray adhesive
batting
staple gun
staples
fabric
images for decoupaging
white craft glue
foam brush
gold paint pen

Steps:

  1. Remove the seat from the chair.

  2. Cut foam to fit seat (figure A), then spray a coating of spray adhesive onto the wood to attach the foam.

  3. Wrap seat with batting (figure B) and use a staple gun to attach it to the wood. If there are notches in the seat, make sure you allow those to remain defined.

  4. Choose your fabric and wrap the seat in the same manner as with the batting (figure C).

  5. Choose the pictures or images to use for decoupaging. Use small, precise scissors to cut out the images.

  6. Since you will be attaching the images to a curved surface, wrap each image around your finger to create a roll. This will ensure better placement.

  7. Apply the glue with a foam brush onto the back of the image.

  8. Place on the chair and cover with another layer of glue (figure D).

  9. When the ends of the image curl up, just apply more glue. The glue will dry clear. Put as many images onto the chair as you like. Allow to dry completely.

  10. Put seat in place. Write the name of your choice onto the chair with a gold paint pen.
