Host Renai Ellison turns throwaway ceramic tiles into a decoupaged mural wall (see photo at right).

Materials:

ceramic tiles
tracing paper
pencil
chalk
colored art papers
scissors
white craft glue
craft knife
acrylic sealer

Steps:

  1. Lay tiles out as desired.

  2. Trace the design of your choice on tracing paper that fits the tiles (figure A).

  3. Apply chalk to the back of the paper, then lay it over the colored art paper and trace the design with a pencil. The chalk will transfer to the colored paper.

  4. Cut designs out of colored paper (figure B).

  5. Lay out design elements over the tiles (figure C).

  6. Apply glue to back of paper elements and stick them to the tiles (figure D) .

  7. Layer some elements over others for a more realistic look. Let dry.

  8. Use a craft knife to cut along edges of tile so that paper design is separated onto the various tile blocks.

  9. Spray with acrylic sealer.
