Fix up a neglected table with the simple technique provided below.
Interior-design expert Donna Babylon shows a beautiful way to update a plain-looking glass table by creating decoupage under glass.

Materials:

any type of glass tabletop
decoupage paper (sheet music, postcards, stencils, wrapping paper, etc.)
quick-erase pen
decoupaging medium
acrylic paint (optional)

Steps:

Figure A

  1. The first step is to plan how the decoupage paper should appear. A good way to start is to draw a square with diagonal marks (figure A). Draw the square on the top side of the glass with a quick-erase pen. You'll be working with the underside of the glass, and the marker can easily be wiped away.

  • Place decoupage designs on top of the glass and trace the patterns (figure B). Again, this is part of the planning stage--the paper will be featured underneath the glass.

  • Flip the glass over--your markings will be clearly visible. Apply the decoupaging medium (it will resemble glue, but dries clear so the image will be visible) to the front of the paper designs. Place the decoupaged side face-down on the glass (remember, when the glass is flipped back over, the design will be seen and the marker wiped away). Press down to make sure there are no air bubbles, and continue this process for the entire design.

  • At this point, the design can be left plain or filled in with acrylic paint (figure C). Once the paint dries, the decoupage underneath the glass is finished.
