Newspaper Decoupage Chair

Materials:

old wooden chair
sandpaper
flat paint in desired color
theme pictures, writing, and/or drawings from old newspapers and magazines
scissors
Mod Podge or other decoupage medium
small bottles or tubes of various colors of acrylic paints
latex polyurethane
paintbrushes

Steps:
  1. Clean, lightly sand and paint the chair a flat color such as black, gold, silver, cobalt blue or red.
  2. Photocopy and cut out any pictures, writing and/or drawings that you may want to repeat on various places of the chair.
  3. Apply the imagery to the chair surface in the desired design or pattern with decoupage medium, and let it dry completely.
  4. Fill in "empty" areas with painted patterns or designs as desired. Let it dry.
  5. Coat the chair with polyurethane, and let it dry for a few days before using.
Tip: Libraries and bookstores usually offer a multitude of books featuring decoupage history, concepts, and crafts. Understanding these aspects of decoupage will encourage new ideas and will help to develop a range of techniques.
