Designer Judy Bumgarner shows how to add layers of interest to stone tiles and transform them into decorative accessories

Stone Tile Coasters
Materials:
computer printout or color copy of handprinted parchment paper
four-inch stone tiles (available at hardware stores)
decoupage medium
damp sponge brush
scissors
patterned tissue paper
stamp and ink pad with a color that matches tissue paper
roll of cork
white glue
Steps:
- Tear off a small section of the parchment paper, then glue it onto the tile with decoupage medium that you've applied to a damp sponge brush. Smooth down, then brush another layer of medium over the top (figure A).
- Cut out patterns or designs from tissue paper.
- Glue tissue paper onto of parchment (figure B). Let dry.
- Press stamp onto ink pad and lightly press onto a small area of tile. Let dry.
- Cut cork slightly smaller than the tile and squeeze white glue onto one side of it. Press cork onto back of stone tile (figure C). Let dry.
