Guest Renee Sparks applies fabric decoupage to a glass-topped table to produce a colorful, new surface.
Steps:
- Arrange the pictures for the design on the top side of the glass, and mark around them. Be careful not to mark on the paper itself, as the glue will cause the ink to run.
- After all the positions are marked, flip the glass over so the back side is facing up.
- Brush glue completely on the front of one picture. Match it to its outline, and roll the glue bottle over it like a rolling pin to press out any air bubbles. Repeat with the other pictures.
- Let the whole arrangement dry overnight.
- When the glue is dry, spray a small amount of glass cleaner on a cloth and wipe the marks off the face of the glass.
- Apply a thin coat of polyurethane around the edges of each picture. If any gets on the glass, scrape it off after it dries.
- Cut a compressed sponge in small pieces, and dip them in paint. Sponge-paint around the outer edge of the table top until you are pleased with the result.
Note: Although decoupage may be applied to nearly any item other than fabric, objects with decoupage surfaces should not be used as serving dishes, trays, etc. These pieces are for decorative purposes only, and should not come into contact with any food or liquids.
