Host Renai Ellison shows how to make personal artwork using found and salvaged objects such as old keys, trinkets and interesting hardware. This one focuses on an architectural theme
(figure A).
Materials:
salvaged items of choice
piece of plywood
shadowbox
decorative piece of wrapping paper
drill
black craft wire
Steps:
- Thoroughly clean the items to be put in the collage.
- Make sure the shadowbox fits over the plywood.
- Remove the shadowbox.
- Glue the paper to be the background onto the plywood.
- Assemble the items on the board.
- Drill small holes into the board.
- Thread black craft wire through the hole of the object. Wrap it around the object, then pull the wire through. Twist to secure it to the back of the wood (figure B).
- Push the wire through the hole. Twist the wire to secure the object.
- For items with screws, push the screw through to the front of the plywood from the back (figure C). Place the object on top of the screw and twist it onto the front of the board. Continue with the remaining items.
- Place shadowbox over the plywood, and you're ready to display.
Tips
- Find items from around the house or outside that can be salvaged and used for the collage.
- Make sure the shadowbox is deep enough to hold the items.
