Figure B
Field reporter Joe Zanger visits The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson's Nashville home, to learn about the creative faux-finishing techniques that were used to restore some of the mansion's woodgrained furnishings.

Figure A--Andrew Jackson wanted the restoration of his home to be economical yet stylish when he retired to Tennessee in the late 1800s. While workers kept it simple in bedrooms and other areas, public areas such as parlors and entryways were impressively styled. The wallpaper in this entryway was fresh off the boat from France.

Figure B--Woodgraining was applied to all the doors in the house, and the century-old finish still retains its beauty and looks convincingly like real mahogany.
