Materials:
cabinet
latex acrylic satin paint (Cumin)
latex acrylic eggshell paint (Pale Green)
paintbrushes
glaze (Bark Brown, Raw Umber)
chip brushes
pure mineral spirits
wool sponge
Steps:
- Base-coat wood with Cumin and let dry.
- Load a chip brush with a light amount of glaze and gently apply color to surface in a vertical striated pattern. Work in a three to four-inch area at a time. Angle another clean, dry chip brush about five degrees and lightly brush over the wet glaze to soften it. The wood grain effect will start taking place. Let dry over night.
- Working in small areas, brush on a very light coat of mineral spirits. While the area is still wet, load another clean, dry brush with green paint and drag brush over the surface. The paint will not go on evenly as the spirits help to resist the green from sticking to the wood grain (figure A).Repeat process over entire piece and allow this to dry for two days.
- Wipe raw umber glaze over green paint with a damp wool sponge.
