Steps:
  1. Drill a hole into an antique molding rosette and add a clock mechanism according to the manufacturer's directions (this fits in from behind and the clock hands are then attached in the front).
  2. Apply an oil-base paint. Then add two layers of latex paint--this won't adhere very well to the base coat. Sand away some of the top layers for an aged look (figure A).
