Beautify any room with an "antiqued" rocker that weighs only four pounds! Even after decorating, it can be dismantled for transportation or storage.

Materials:

Kraftables Rock Me Rocker by Mixed Nuts, #00717 (or any other child's rocker)
six to eight 2 oz. bottles of Apple Barrel Antique White acrylic paint, #20505
six to eight 2 oz bottles of Apple Barrel Blue Stoneware acrylic paint, #20566
Folk Art Crackle Medium (2 oz. - #694; 4 oz. - #695; 8 oz. - #696)
sponge brushes
yards of Offray Antique Blue grosgrain ribbon
yards of pearl trim
yard of fancy lace trim
Aleene's tacky glue
Krylon crystal clear acrylic
Victorian stickers (flowers, teapots, etc.)

Steps:

  1. Using a sponge brush, base coat all sides of the pieces of the rocker with white paint if using the Kraftables Rock Me Rocker. Just coat the rocker if using another kind. Let it dry. (This coat does not have to be solid coverage.)
  2. Using a sponge brush, apply the crackle medium to one side of all of the pieces. Let this dry completely.
  3. Using a sponge brush, apply the blue paint over the crackle medium in thick continuous strokes. Do not brush back over areas as it smears the crackling. The thicker the paint, the easier it is to apply.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to the other sides of all pieces. Make sure all have dried completely before continuing.
  5. Assemble the chair (if using the Kraftables chair) to see what areas are visible and not visible for applying stickers. Also, note how the notches fit together before gluing the ribbon trim.
  6. Apply stickers to the chair assembled or unassembled. Lightly place the stickers into place, and when content with the design, firmly press them down.
  7. Spray two to three layers of acrylic gloss coating to protect paint and stickers. Let it dry overnight.
  8. To apply the ribbon, squeeze glue in a tight "S" pattern along the edging, and press the blue ribbon into place. Do not adhere the ribbon on seat of the chair. Be sure not to put ribbon into notches where the chair fits together. Do not put any ribbon on the sides of the seat. Apply ribbon to the back notch of the chair, but put the seat into place prior to applying the ribbon.
  9. To adhere the seat lace, apply glue in an "S" pattern onto the front of the seat. Press the lace into place.
Note: Crackle medium can create a variety of looks--thin, thick, random, consistent. Test it out before starting. Also, some acrylic gloss sealers will bleed the stickers. Test them first as well.
