Materials:
wooden object (plate, table, etc.)
crackling liquid
sponge brush or bristle brush
latex paint (one color for the base and another for the top coat)
antiquing stain and a clean sponge (optional)
Steps:
- Paint the wooden object with regular latex paint, and let it dry.
- Cover the base coat with enough crackle medium so that it is shiny when dry. Let it set for 24 hours. Add another coat of crackle medium if necessary.
- Brush on the top coat of paint. The cracks will begin to appear almost immediately. For smaller cracks, thin the paint with water before using it. About 1/2 cup of paint to 1/3 cup of water works well.
- To produce an antique finish, brush antiquing stain onto the item. Immediately wipe off the excess with a sponge.
