Materials:
36" wide felt: 1/4 yard red, 1/2 yard white, 1-3/8 yards blue
3-1/4 yards of 18" wide paper-backed fusible web
buttons:
- 5 small white hearts
- 4 larger white hearts
- 10 red hearts
- 5 yellow stars
- 8 flags
- 12 red/blue stars
- 4 round white
- 6 small white flowers
fabric glue
scissors
pencil
right-angle ruler
straight-edge ruler
Steps:
1. Cut blue felt to measure 20-1/8" x 26-1/2" for background and cut three 2" x 8" pieces for hanger tabs.
2. Mark the following pattern measurements on the paper side of the fusible web (figure A). Indicate on each pattern piece what color it should be. Cut each pattern slightly larger than its measurement.
Blue:
five 2-3/4" x 1-3/4" flag fields
2-7/8" rectangle
4-1/4" circle
one star and one heart
three 2" x 8" hanger tabs
Red:
five short 7/8" x 3-3/4" stripes
10 long 7/8" x 6-1/2" stripes
four 4-3/8" x 6-1/2" flag backgrounds
3. Cut a white 17-1/8" x 23-1/2" background piece and back it with fusible web according to manufacturer's instructions.
4. Fuse other pattern pieces to the appropriate color of felt and trim to size.
5. Center the white background on top of the blue background and fuse.
6. Remove the paper backing and lay out a flag design on white felt as seen in figure B. Each design should be about 1 inch from the border and each other.
7. Fuse each hanger tab with fusible web to each piece without it. Cut six 1" x 2" pieces of fusible web and use them to fuse the hanger tabs to the front and back of the wall hanging, following photo as a guide.
8. Embellish with buttons as in figure C. Hang and enjoy!
