One of the brightest trends is jewels and beads delicately dangling from lampshades:

• A lamp is an accessory for a room, so it's similar to a bracelet or necklace for an outfit. And like their jewelry counterpart, beaded lampshades bring a little bit of romance anywhere they are used (figure A).

There are many different colors (usually jewel tones), shapes and sizes of beads available for lampshades. Their addition makes a shade sophisticated without being too serious.

Beaded lampshades add a touch of whimsy and a note of fun to any room in your home.

All different kinds of fabrics can be coordinated with the beads themselves, which can tone down a normally formal pattern.

Adding beads to candle shades elevates the mood because they make light glow (figure B).

To make your own beaded shade, outline one with double-sided craft tape, and then roll it in small beads (figure C). Or, glue beaded ribbon to the inside lower edge of a shade for an instantly stylish look.
