Materials:
fabric
contrasting fabric for bias tape
stabilizer
rayon thread (for embroidery)
fusible basting tape
Steps:
- Cut a square of fabric to the desired tablecloth size. Add an inch to the lengh and width to allow for hems.
- Using a fabric marker, divide and mark the fabric into nine to 12 squares (depending on the size of it).
- Set sewing machine for embroidery and select motif. Mark the center point of each square. Place stabilizer behind fabric, place in embroidery hoop and embroider design (figure A). Note: Hand embroider, stamp, applique or paint a motif in each square if desired.
- Create bias strips according to directions found with bias tape maker (figure B).
- Fuse a strip of basting tape to the back of bias strips. Remove paper backing and fuse bias strips in place over marked lines (figure C).
- Straight-stitch close to each edge of the bias tape (figure D). Turn up and press a one-half inch double-fold hem in the edges of the tablecloth. Stitch in place.
