Materials:

yardage of Duponi silk (or other medium-weight silk with a tight weave. Buy according to the table size chosen)
iron-on fusible webbing or glue used for sewing
iron
Bloomsbury school of art book (The Decorative Painter by Cressida Bell was used as inspiration)
metallic fabric paints
paint brushes
fabric paint pen in black
tailor's chalk or invisible ink pen

Steps:

  1. Cut and hem the raw edges of the table scarf using iron-on fusible webbing or fabric glue.
  2. Iron and lay fabric out on a flat work surface.
  3. Use book(s) for reference and work out a pattern on scrap paper.
  4. Transfer the drawing freehand to the table scarf fabric with tailor's chalk. Make paper templates to transfer repetitive images such as circles or squares. Redraw anything that isn't pleasing as the paint will cover up any mistakes.
  5. Fill in the design using metallic fabric paints. Let dry completely. These paints create a wonderful sheen.
  6. Loosely outline the design with the black fabric pen. This creates depth and accents the design. Let dry.
