Turn a store-bought chair set into a customized item by sewing slipcovers for the cushions.
Materials:

fabric (tropical print--DISCONTINUED)(JoAnns)
scissors
pencil
straightedge
hook and loop tape
pins
cotton piping

Steps:

1. Create a pattern by laying the cushion on the wrong side of the chosen fabric (carefully line it up if using a floral pattern so a flower is centered on each cushion ). Trace around it and add a 5/8-inch seam allowance all the way around. Cut out the piece and use it as a template to cut two pieces for each cushion.

2. Measure the original cushion's depth to determine the width of the boxing. Add a 5/8-inch seam allowance to the top and bottom edges, cut the strips out to go around three sides of each cushion. Cut two more strips for the back of each cushion and sew hook and loop tape to them, which is how the slipcovers will be secured to the store-bought cushions (figure A). Sew one of these sections to each piece of boxing.

3. Sew piping to the outer edges of the wrong side of each top and bottom piece . Then sew the boxing to the bottom of the slipcover, putting the two-piece opening at the back.

4. Sew on the top of the slipcover and turn the finished piece right side out. Place each over a cushion and secure the hook and loop tape.
