Ladder-back chairs get a facelift with easy-to-sew slipcovers.
Slipcovers have been around for ages but are currently all the rage. Unlike in the old days, they now do a lot more than just protect furniture from dirt and dust in the summer. To start out, sewing expert Pam Hastings gives us a lesson to make ladder-back chair slipcovers using Vogue pattern 2374--a simple project, but the same store-bought item can cost upward of $100 per chair. (We'll do each chair for $10!)

Steps:

  1. Make sure that the pattern fits the chair, and adjust if necessary.
  2. Cut out fabric according to pattern instructions
  3. Stitch on machine, leaving a half-inch allowance.
  4. Sew band sections.
  5. Attach ties at corners.
  6. Sew lining and place on the main body, right sides together (put the ties in the center so they won't get caught in the seam). Leave back open for turning.
  7. Turn right side out. Slipstitch opening.
