Welcome Mat

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-331 -- More Projects »
Turn your welcome mat into an unforgettable craft with instructions from Design Originals' Suzanne McNeill. Soon your guest will be too busy admiring your unique woven mat to come in the door!

Materials:

1/2 yard red felt
5/8 yard blue felt
14" x 24" woven door mat
scissors
gros point needle

Steps:
  1. Wash fabric to be sure the colors won't bleed.
  2. Cut 1" wide strips out of red and blue felt.
  3. Find the center of the door mat. Door mats vary slightly in size so it is important to count from the center out as you would if you were cross stitching. Begin in the center and cross stitch by following the dots in the above diagram. You don't have to worry about the felt strip twisting, but you can straighten it out if you prefer.
  4. Secure ends of fabric on the back side of the door mat by tying a knot or by gluing.
