Smart Design : Episode SDN-211 -- More Projects »
Animal prints have been popular since Teddy Roosevelt returned from a safari after he left the presidency in 1909. They fit into any interior from traditional to contemporary and are bolder and more exciting than ever before.
  • Animal prints are timeless and have been used in decorative applications from home to fashion. A look once reserved for pillows and rugs is now blanketing ottomans, draping windows and covering walls.

  • A modest touch that translates so easily to any decor, designers have dubbed animal prints the new neutral. They go in just about any setting from classic to contemporary to European (figure B).

  • Animal prints breathe life into even the tamest decors. Use small touches such as pillows, trims and throw blankets to add pizzazz to a room. Don't be afraid to experiment--animal prints can be very subtle, elegant and classic.
  • For a simple touch, glue animal print fabrics or adhere textured contact paper to picture frames (figure C). These make great gifts and look nice when grouped together.
