Sew a pillow surrounded by tabs and cording for a nautical touch in any room.
Materials:

18" pillow form
fabric
3 yards of 5/8" cotton cording
iron
Velcro hook and loop tape
masking tape
comb

Steps:

1. Cut fabric into one 19-inch square for the front and two smaller pieces for the back (15" x 19" and 8" x 19").

2. Place front and back pieces right sides together for placement. Press/stitch a one-inch double hem along the two back piece edges that overlap.

3. Sew three two-inch strips of hook and loop tape to the wrong side of one of the back pieces along the hem and the coordinating three pieces to the right side of the other back piece along the adjacent hem to hold the back closed once stuffed .

4. Make 20 tabs (2" x 5" each) for each pillow by cutting a strip of fabric five inches wide and as long as desired (five-inch sections will be cut from it once sewn so longer is easier). Fold it in half with right sides together and sew a half-inch seam allowance along the open edge. Cut it into five-inch sections for each tab. Repeat as necessary and turn each right side out. Press flat with seam in the middle of the back.

5. Fold the tabs in half so the open ends meet and pin five along each edge on the right side of the pillow front. Machine-baste across the tabs to hold them in place.

6. Place back pieces over the right side of the front and sew around the pillow with a half-inch seam allowance. Turn and press.

7. Sew each tab across the middle to make a channel for the cording as it will move around since the tabs are wide.

8. Wrap masking tape on the end of the cording and thread it through the tabs in one continuous piece. Pull some extra out at each corner; make a knot, and then cut the center of the loop. Unravel the ends with a wet comb to create a fringed look .
