Ellie Schneider, from Offray Ribbon, makes fun, inexpensive pillows from some of her favorite old sweaters and sweatshirts.

Materials:

sweaters or sweatshirts to be cut up
scissors
thread
16-inch pillow forms

Steps:
  1. Cut a 17-inch square out of the middle of your sweater, which allows for a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Cut out both layers.
  2. Lay the sweater onto non-woven interfacing for stability.
  3. To hold in place, secure with a basting hand stitch (right sides together), all the way around the square, leaving a small opening.
  4. Turn pillow form inside-out, turning the right sides to the outside.
  5. Add ribbon.
  6. Insert pillow form and stitch the opening closed.

You can make many different variations of these pillows. When adding ribbon, let the colors and designs of the sweater dictate the color and application of the ribbons. Experiment and have fun. Don't worry about making a mistake, especially if the sweater or shirt is an old one you were going to throw out anyway.
