Figure B

Host Mary Ellen Pinkham doles out tips on unique uses for towels.
  • Use an older towel to mop floors. Fold and place it on to a clamp handle mop. Cut the terrycloth into strips (figure A).

  • Make a large absorbent baby towel by sewing a washcloth onto a cushy bath towel. Fold the washcloth in half, then tuck the folded section in to make a "V". Stitch the bottom of the cloth to the edge of the length of the bath towel (figure B).

  • Sew two towels together to make a bath mat.

  • Make bathroom curtains out of two hand towels. Use larger beach towels to make a shower curtain.

  • Make a shoe bag by sewing together two kitchen towels. Sew in a drawstring at the top of the bag, then tie the bag shut.

  • Display guest towels in a decorative suitcase. Roll up hand towels, washcloths and large towels, arrange them in the suitcase and leave the case in the guest room where guests can find them easily.

  • Place a damp towel under a large mixing bowl to prevent the bowl from slipping.

  • Add a cup of white vinegar to a load of towels in the wash to keep them fresh and soft.
