Hanging Wallpaper Horizontally

Hanging woven wallpaper is an easy project for the beginner since it's thick so it won't rip and is easy to match.
Materials:

woven grass wallpaper (Ralph Lauren)
heavy-duty wallpaper paste
foam paint roller
seam roller
sponges
utility knife
measuring tape
scissors
wide metal putty knife
narrow decorative trim
nail gun (or hammer and finish nails)

Steps:

1. Measure the length of the strip needed. To continue papering around an inner corner, put the measuring tape flush in the corner and overlap around the next corner by about one inch. Cut the wall covering to length and apply paste to the back. Be neat with this step because you don't want to get too much paste on the front of the paper. When the piece is coated, go right to the wall (the featured paper isn't pre-pasted so there is no need to book the strips).

2. Have someone help you hang the paper and start flush in the corner. Line the paper up with the edge of the piece just below it and smooth the piece in place with your hands rather than a plastic wallpaper smoother. Make sure the edge is adhering around the corner (figure A) and use a seam roller.
3. Wipe off any excess glue, and then repeat the steps above for the next piece.

4. Cut the top strip the same length as the previous one, but shave the width down to about an inch or so wider than the space left on the wall. Paste and hang as above, and then hold a putty knife as close to the bottom edge of the crown molding as possible and trim the paper using a utility knife (figure B). Note: Change the blade often to ensure clean cuts.
5. Stain the decorative trim and let dry. Nail the trim horizontally along the walls where desired, and then fill the holes with wood putty.
