Patterns like these can be mixed when they have the same background color (white) and share colors. Be sure to vary the scale of the print when mixing multiple patterns.
Shari Hiller encourages mixing patterns, adding that five patterns in one room is not uncommon; she has seen up to 15 combined. She discusses the dos and don'ts for mixing patterns:
  • All patterns should have the same background color.
  • All patterns should share the same colors.
  • The scale of the print of the patterns should vary in size from small to large.
