2002 White House Christmas Card
In the 1980s the White House began a special tradition of commissioning an American artist to create an original illustration for the White House Christmas card. For the 2002 card, the Bushes selected Kennesaw, Ga., resident Zhen-Huan Lu, the first Chinese-American to be honored with this task. Lu's oil painting featured a 1938 state piano decorated with gold-leaf vignettes of American musical forms and gilded legs carved like eagles in honor of that year's theme, "All Creatures Great and Small."
