Guest Deborah Durham shows how computers can be utilized to design a themed motif for a family reunion.
Materials:
computer
scanner
family photos (baby photos are great)
color printer
place mats
iron-on transfer paper
clear votive candle holders
light-colored candles
clear plastic cling sheets
glass surface
glossy photo paper from photo and business-supply stores
small picture frames
digital camera
self-adhesive paper from craft and business-supply stores
Steps:
- Scan in a favorite photo as a place mat focal point, then add other photos to the perimeter (figure A).
- Print out place mat photos on iron-on transfer paper.
- For cocktail napkins or coasters, scan in photos and print onto the iron-on, following the instructions on the package (figure B).
- For windows or votive candles, print out scanned photos on cling sheets, cut out the images and apply to the glass surface.
- For place settings, scan in images of the guests as children.
- Print out on glossy photo paper.
- Cut out the photos and put in small individual frames.
- The photos can also be printed out on self-adhesive paper, and printed stickers can be applied to glasses or other items for guests to take home with them (figure C).
Tips
- Have lettering reversed for iron-on pieces that have writing on them. Your computer should have a "button" you can click on to accomplish this.
- Print old pictures on a sepia setting to give an authentically aged look.
- Iron on a hard surface such as a cutting board.
