Deborah Durham from Hewlett-Packard shows host Renai Ellison some fun ways to use computer-craft techniques to create a fishing theme for a home office.
Materials:
favorite fishing photos and clip art, or appropriate sayings such as "I'd rather be fishing."
iron-on T-shirt transfer papers (for cotton fabrics)
plain computer mouse pad
iron
magnetized paper
cork bulletin board
hard, flat, smooth surface such as a pillowcase-covered cutting board
heavy cord from fishing cord
fishing lures
glue gun
fish buttons from fabric/craft stores
thumbtacks
antique glaze
Steps:
- Scan or download a favorite fish picture or design, then print it on an iron-on transfer that will fit on a mouse pad (figure A). Iron evenly for 40 seconds or so. Print out on magnetized paper.
- Peel off the printed areas and adhere to metal filing cabinet or other metal surface in the home office.
- Create a fish-themed bulletin board by scanning and printing out fish designs on iron-on transfer paper (figure B).
- Peel off and iron onto fabric, cover cork bulletin board and staple to back.
- Use heavy cord from an outdoors or sporting-goods store and staple to create diagonal grids on the board.
- Embellish with family fishing-related photographs and fishing paraphernalia such as lures and netting.
- Hot glue small fish buttons on the tops of thumb tacks, and place at each intersection of the cord grid.
- Age the fish by painting on an antique glaze.
