Garden Style Bedroom
Decorating With Style : Episode DWS-657 -- More Projects »
Linda Hallam demonstrates how to bring outdoor garden accessories indoors and use them to create a garden-style bedroom.
- The old gate used as a headboard is the centerpiece of the room. Look for them at flea markets and antique/secondhand shops. Use a stud finder to locate wall studs due to the weight. Make sure the hangers or brackets are screwed into studs (toggle bolts are another option). Hang two for a king-size bed or find a wider gate or fence section for a standard bed.
- For a lightweight option, hang a section of picket fence or garden trellis.
- Mix and match checks, strips and floral with linen outlet finds. Or use a bed -in-a-bag.
- A basket at the foot of the bed is great for magazines or stack two picnic baskets for more storage.
- If space allows, set up a gardening sitting area with folding wooden chairs or little metal bistro chairs.
- Move a baker's rack into the bedroom and use it to organize houseplants, accessories and gardening books.
- Salvage yards are good places to find old fragments such as window frames, porch columns or balusters. Shop around for watering cans, too, mixing old and new with metal and painted ones.
