A valance made from scraps of the same fabric used to recover chairs gives a custom look.
Hosts Shari Hiller and Matt Fox tackle redecorating the kitchen and dining room of a lake home. They decide on a nautical theme, and, after consulting the Yacht Style Book, implement the redo using vertical paneling balanced by white walls above it, painted cabinetry and nautical accessories like a propeller base candlestick , a ship's bell and portholes.

To finish the kitchen's new look, Hiller makes slipcovers for the chairs, adding an appliqued anchor, and makes a box valance for the window in matching fabric. The wood kitchen cabinets are painted two colors: white above the counter and deep red below. Fox hangs some portholes (about $20 each) on the wall above the paneling, a new chandelier, and a whimsical lifeboat sign.
