Car Port Chic

Small spaces take a lot of creative design risks, even car port chic.

Small Space, Big Style : Episode HSSBS-508 -- More Projects »
A musician renovates and decorates every square inch of his Chelsea home, a designer flea market shops in San Francisco, a father turns his garage into a bedroom for his son, and a home in Tokyo is made of 270 steel boxes.

Chelsea Pad
Musician and web designer Mark Robohm renovated this 350-square-foot Chelsea apartment himself, and there isn’t an inch of wasted space. He added a lofted bedroom with a ladder that folds flush into the wall when not in use. In the living room, a mobile coffee table with a butcher-block top serves as a versatile piece. Robohm keeps it simple in design and materials with unassuming, yet exceptional results.

Uncommon Cabinet
Next: Kitchen Plus
A clever cabinet that stores and hides and small furniture keep the main living area open. Robohm designed and built the cabinet that hides the flat-panel television. The twist here is that the TV descends vertically down into the cabinet. Sliding doors on the cabinets and shelves expose some areas while hiding others so they can be used for both displays and closed storage.
