8. Don't hide your bed.

Of course, you can tuck the bed into a wall (there are new, fabulous takes on Murphy beds) or a couch; or block it with drapes, screens or bookcases; but there's another more daring option, says designer Alice Fakier, this year's Design Star runner-up and host of Ask Alice on HGTV.com. "Make the bed fabulous and drop it in the center of the room," she says. That's what designer Ron Marvin did in his New York City studio.
