Making Space for Serious Style

Never mind the square footage; make space for serious style.

Small Space, Big Style : Episode HSSBS-411 -- More Projects »
When space is small, the little things mean a lot. See a stylish alternative to wallpaper in New York, a revamped San Francisco basement apartment, a cabin with a view in Toronto and a Chicago artist's miniature design.

Staunchly Eclectic
James Klein and David Reid, the design duo behind porcelain studio KleinReid, have filled their home with inspirational objects. Their apartment is accessorized with vintage furniture and flea market finds, featuring a special collection in each room. They maintain "controlled clutter" with tons of clever storage. Klein and Reid have created a home that echoes their work philosophy: playful design, fine craftsmanship and lasting beauty.

Big on Function
In the kitchen, a few large-scale pieces make it functional. A sizeable, self-assembled steel cabinet displays their collection of dinnerware. The dining table is a thrift store find that seats lots of guests and provides much of the counter/workspace for the kitchen. Don't be afraid to bring big pieces into small spaces; they provide a visual anchor in the room.
