Imaginative Designs

Imaginative designs can expand any square footage.

Small Space, Big Style : Episode HSSBS-312 -- More Projects »
Imagination results in modern creation! An island bungalow in Washington State gets a major renovation, a New York designer gives the full treatment to revamp his home office, architectural designers create a fresh new idea for moveable walls and a small town couple gets creative in their Big Apple apartment.

Beachside Getaway
This 600-square-foot cottage on Vashon Island, Washington, is the perfect place for two urbanites seeking refuge. While the location met Ted Watson's and Theodore Sive's needs, the interior was uninspiring. Watson renovated the space using an Americana theme and a color palette of red, white and navy blue. Named WestWard, their cozy cabin celebrates the outdoors and a leisurely lifestyle.

Keeping It Clean
Next: Show It Off!
To expand the living room outside to the deck, the homeowners had large windows and French doors installed. Their beach house is friendly to guests and the resident dog, so making it easy to clean was a mandatory part of the design. Slipcovers provide worry-free comfort. When they get dirty, they're just thrown in the wash. The homeowners also painted the wood floors white, which makes the space seem clean and bright. This is an inexpensive trick: deck paint is affordable and durable for high traffic or indoor/outdoor areas.
