Small Space, Big Style : Episode HSSBS-210 -- More Projects »
You don't have to give up style to live in a small space. Tour a whimsical '40s-inspired New York retreat, a rooftop glass house in San Francisco, a city oasis in New York and movable walls in a small Miami condo.

Glamorous Getaway
Homeowners John Loecke and Jason Nixon turned a white box with ordinary brown floors into a glamorous New York getaway reminiscent of old Hollywood. The 750-square-foot apartment has a small kitchen, bathroom and bedroom but a generous, open living room. Although their fabrics feature a variety of different patterns, the apartment is unified with dark wood furniture and floors.

Dark Foundation

Black is a unifying foundation color throughout the apartment, with additional colors layered on. Dark colors can be a good choice for small spaces because they recede. Two tall black bookcases provide floor-to-ceiling storage and display. And dark floors are balanced by lighter accents throughout the room.
