Small Space, Big Style : Episode HSSBS-203 -- More Projects »
Dream homes come in all sizes. Style, glamour and surprises abound in a tiny New York walk-up, an Austin loft, a historic Baltimore row house and a small Miami apartment. Living in a small space doesn't mean "living small," especially when you know a few tricks for making areas feel bigger!

Boutique Hotel Suite
Who would be brave enough to turn a decrepit New York tenement into a fancy hotel suite? Meet architects Ward Welch and Paul Rice. For these two, the trick to living small is to include elegance and luxury in unexpected places.

Lessons in Living Room
The building was abandoned and in ruins when Rice and Welch bought it. They were thrilled to be able to build everything from the ground up—they didn't have to undo what others had done. As a tenement, the building had the kitchen and bathrooms on the ends of the space. Rice and Welch reconfigured the space and moved the plumbing to a central location so that living and sleeping areas could be on opposite ends of the apartment.
