Video: Soften a ceiling by attaching a fabric awning with scalloped edges.
Materials:

fabric
shade interfacing
iron
decorative cording
decorative wood trim
staple gun
hot glue gun
brad nailer
featured toilet room wall paint (Urban Putty SW1128)

Steps:

1. Measure the ceiling and cut a panel of fabric one inch larger all the way around . Cut four strips of matching fabric 11 inches wide to make the scallops.

2. Add stiffness by ironing shade interfacing to the back of each piece. Once it 's cool, cut the scallops and sew the scalloped strips to the rectangular ceiling piece.

3. Hot-glue decorative cording to the scallops as a finishing touch.

4. Remove any ceiling fixtures and staple the fabric in place. Start in the center , and then the ends of each side and fill in between. Staple the fabric close to the fixture opening and remove the excess so the light/fan can be replaced.

5. For a finished look, cut and paint four pieces of wood trim to cover the seams and install them like crown molding using a brad nailer.
