White bedding is contrasted with sun-baked reds and golds in the second bedroom.
You may have heard that colors can affect moods in very powerful ways, especially when they're concentrated in groupings. In her Missouri farmhouse, design stylist and antiques dealer Ruth Touhill has created a cheerful attic retreat for visiting family and friends using a warm, welcoming mix of country reds.
  • Low ceilings and exposed beams lend a cozy feel to the space.
  • The furnishings are even more inviting against the rough texture of the beams and exposed stone walls.
  • The red color palette stands out against the beige background. Touhill used a variety of shades for interest.
  • Flannel-checked jackets become a design element when hung from a peg rack. Other soft touches include red and white quilts, an Oriental rug with red and gold hues and a red and white slipcovered sofa.
