The bathroom uses mirrors and angles to maximize the sense of space.

Host Joan Kohn visits designer Eileen Schwartz to get some of the tricks of the trade she used in her new master suite for making small spaces seem larger.

  • The old bath was transformed into an entry hall with storage that leads to a dressing area and closet in the suite.
  • The room was visually extended by furnishing an outdoor terrace just beyond the French doors in the bedroom.
  • A clean, uncluttered look was achieved by using built-ins in the bedroom.
  • Cathedral ceilings and exposed wood beams in the bed and bath draw the eye upward and increase the volume of the space without requiring a larger footprint.
  • The bathtub was placed on an angle to take advantage of the views.
  • The bathroom uses mirrors to enlarge the space and give a sense of depth, reflecting the angled tub and wonderful views.
  • The glass block around the shower gives a less enclosed feeling while still providing privacy.
  • A medium-height shelf unit separates the toilet from the rest of the room.
  • A unique feature of the bath is the small refrigerator. Tall shelves top the unit, providing storage for towels and supplies.
  • A sit-down dressing table allows for the leisurely application of makeup.
  • The sinks are extra large and deep, and the projection provides space for a wheelchair , should one be needed in the future.
