Box springs set on the floor and low, linear furniture help a small bedroom look larger.
Designer Shannon Palmer remained true to the architectural roots of his small '60s home when he began decorating, choosing furnishings with minimal, clean lines and typical mid-century colors like burnt orange and turquoise. The height of the wood -paneled ceiling, open floor plan, and tall glass windows help give the small home a bigger feel. He stripped all the linoleum and carpeting in the home down to concrete for a clean, flowing look, and used shag area rugs to offset its hardness. He likes the look of low, linear furniture, which he says gives a "loungey, inviting, cocktail feel." In the bedroom, he set his bed's box spring directly on the floor and used beautiful white bedding and vintage lampshades he salvaged and refurbished.
