Figure A--Choose a color scheme and think of the various elements of a room as articles of clothing. If the sofa is a jacket, for example, each pillow might be a tie. Area rugs could be considered sweaters for the floor. You might think of the curtains or a second chair as a shirt.

Figure B--Choose textures as well as colors. A woven-look on a sofa might resemble a herringbone jacket, so add other textures and patterns in the pillows. Add other accessories in the same manner that you would when putting together an outfit.

Figure C--Look to nature for color schemes . If you like the mountains, the coast or the plains, for example, bring those colors inside and use them as your color palette.
