Guest designer Deborah Burnett demonstrates how to redecorate a kitchen or any room in the house using the theory of universal design, which means decorating to accomodate people as they age.
Tips:
- Change out small cabinet knobs with larger knobs or wider pulls.
- Use large, easy-to-access containers to hold tea bags, bags of crackers, etc.
- Use brighter and bolder colors in your color scheme.
- Light up kitchen workspace with a small lamp, keep cookbooks stacked on the counter instead of up high and store large utensils in a decorative pitcher. Be sure to install a GFI outlet when using electrical items near a water source.
