Guest designer Deborah Burnett demonstrates how to redecorate a kitchen or any room in the house using the theory of universal design, which means decorating to accomodate people as they age.

Tips:

  • Change out small cabinet knobs with larger knobs or wider pulls.
  • Use large, easy-to-access containers to hold tea bags, bags of crackers, etc.
  • Use brighter and bolder colors in your color scheme.
  • Light up kitchen workspace with a small lamp, keep cookbooks stacked on the counter instead of up high and store large utensils in a decorative pitcher. Be sure to install a GFI outlet when using electrical items near a water source.
